Existe um ar de mistério, mitológico e mágico acerca dos espíritos (aguardentes) que durante séculos sempre foram considerados como contendo poções mágicas e grande reputação de portadores de elixir para prolongamento da vida e cura de doenças .

Torna-se difícil afirmar onde e quando começaram a ser feitas as primeiras destilações do vinho ou outras bebidas fermentadas. No entanto, pode afirmar-se que nos tempos do velho Egipto já se conhecia a arte de destilar.

A Amora, encontrada no solo e clima ameno açoriano, otimas condições de desenvolvimento que se refletem na qualidade final da respetiva aguardente.

NÊVEDA´S HOUSE
O figo é considerado um fruto sagrado para os judeus. Ele faz parte dos sete alimentos que crescem na Terra Prometida, segundo a Torá. Para os budistas, a figueira Ficus religiosa é venerada pois, debaixo de uma delas, Buda teria alcançado a sua revelação religiosa. Na Grécia antiga, o figo era considerado um importante alimento e a sua exportação era proibida.

MEDRONHO´S HOUSE
Os medronheiros crescem principalmente nas vertentes voltadas a norte das serras, por serem as mais húmidas. O seu fruto, uma drupa de forma esférica e cor vermelha quando madura, é colhida no Outono e dá origem ao famoso medronho de Monchique. Fruto a partir do qual se produz a aguardente de medronho.

Fruit from which is produced the aguardente de medronho.
